My first experience with the new Rebel
I have to say I was quite excited, and a bit apprehensive about trying the new Rebel, as the wind at Famara was howling, doing its weird gusty thing, ranging between maybe 12 and 30 knots and I only had a 7m with me.
There was one other kiter out and that was a local on a 5m looking like he had plenty of power in the gusts! As I've been riding the Neo's and Evo's so much recently, I'd almost forgotten how well the Rebel handles these conditions, but was wondering about what sort of a ride it was going to give me!!
To add to my nerves, I'd had too much strong spanish coffee, the tide was up to the stones, and there was no one around to launch me, apart from a naked jolly walker who was hanging around looking like he wanted to help!!
All I can say is thank goodness for the 5th line, especially as the wind was cross onshore, so there was no space for error if i messed up the self launch, or if one of the spooky Famara gusts hit!
Much to my surprise, I had LOADS of fun, and was amazed at how well the Rebel handled the explosive gusts, and de- powered enough so i didn't get flung off the board as i hit the lip and bottom turned!
I have to admit I thought the new 'Legendary' Rebel written on the 2013 kites was a bit cheesy, but I have to say its true! The 2013 Rebel is an amazing kite and can handle whatever the wind and waves throw at you!
So for my next trip to Mauritius for the KSP competition, and the Wave riding & Yoga retreat I'm running, I'll be taking a quiver of Rebels!
See you in the sea!
