OLIVIER DANSIN WINS "KING CUP REGATTA" IN THAILAND
2011/12/15

For the 25th anniversary of one of the biggest sailing competitions in the world, 30 kitesurfers from around the world have been invited to join this major event. Olivier Dansin and Blazej Ozog were representing NKB at the event that took place in Kata beach in Phuket between 2nd and 10th of December.

The first days of competition did not allow kitesurf to compete because of the extremely light off shore conditions. The third day, 2 races have been done in a very gusty off shore wind (5/20 knots). Our rider Olivier Dansin won those two races with an impressive advance, Blazej Ozog however injured his ankle during the first race.
On saturday consistent 20 knots (off-shore as usual) gave the riders a hard time as there was no wind at all on the beach, which made it extremely hard to get on the water. Due to some difficulties with launching his kite, Blazej Ozog did not reach the start line.
After winning the 2 first races of the day, missing out on the third one, Olivier Dansin took home the trophy of the first edition of the King Cup Regatta of Kitesurfing in Thailand.

The highlight of the day, was the closure ceremony with the Kind of Thailand who personally handed over the first place trophy to Olivier.
Congrats from North Kiteboarding !

Airton Cozzolino (Italy/North), winner of the first tour stop in Mauritius and second place finisher in Peru stole the crowd’s hearts. In an emotional interview, the native Cape Verdean could not fight back his tears of joy after being carried onto the podium by his local crew and graciously accepting his first ever World Championship trophy in front of his home crowd. “I am so happy. Thank you to everyone. It’s a dream come true,” said the near-speechless Cozzolino.

“We had insane conditions on tour this year,” said KSP rider and Vice President Sky Solbach. “ We scored the most perfect surf ever seen in competition in Mauritius and the longest waves on the planet in Peru. Unfortunately Mother Nature did not cooperate in Cape Verde, but we still had a blast in the Super Sessions here.”

CONGRATS TO BILLY HAMPTON "SUPERGROM" FOR THE WA JUNIOR KITESURF CHAMPION TITLE
2011/11/25

THEY call him ‘supergrom’ and he is taking the kite surfing world by storm.

At the age of just 12, Margaret River school boy Billy Hampton took out the title of WA junior (U16) kite surf champion at the West Australian Kite Surfing Association’s State Wave Championship at Wedge Island north of Perth on Saturday.

There is no stopping the young gun, who has his sights set on the number one position already.

“My goal is to be the best in Australia in both wave and freestyle kitesurfing,” he said.

Billy, who got in to the sport by watching his dad Mark and begging him to try, said this last win was “unexpected”, but it has given him a massive confidence boost in a competition dominated by older children and adults.

“I felt like I had a little bit of a chance, but (my main competitor) was just really good and he had a big enough kite, so I thought I wasn’t going to win,” he said. “I was just looking to get a couple of tricks in, and I got (the win).”

Billy’s mum Helen said her son was gaining respect in the kitesurfing world, being dubbed the Supergrom due to his young age and no-fear attitude towards trying big tricks and new techniques.

“I’m really proud, it is quite overwhelming as well because he is so young,” she said. “Most of (the other competitors) are a little bit older, but he seems to be able to do it... he has just gone from strength to strength.”

Billy has recently gained sponsorship from North Kites and is now on the North national team.

He is also sponsored by Marty Littlewood of Delta Designs in Margaret River.

Billy is now preparing to compete in the coming WA Freestyle State Junior Title, he will then showcase his talent to the world at Youngblood and then he will head to WAs premier kite surfing event Kitestock in Dongara to battle it out in a number of categories.

Billy also won “best up and coming junior” at Kitestock last year.
